For Nonprofits + Neighbors + Volunteers + Funders

One Hub. Stronger Connections. A More Resilient Western North Carolina.

The wncHelp App  is a new digital infrastructure for Western North Carolina, built to tackle food insecurity and mental health support by making local help easier to find and easier to share. It’s a central hub where nonprofits, neighbors in need, volunteers, and funders can see each other, support each other, and show up together when it matters most.

If you believe our region deserves better coordination, clearer communication, and kinder access to services, your voice is essential in shaping what comes next. Add your organization’s name to this emerging coalition and help design the tools our community needs to thrive.

The vison and purpose:

The wncHelp App is a collaborative, easy to use digital platform for neighbors facing food insecurity and mental health challenges in Western North Carolina, the nonprofits providing services, community members looking to help, and funders looking to provide support.

The app reduces duplication of services and wasted resources, strengthens partnerships, and provides actionable data for funders.

The wncHelp App is built for:

Neighbors in need

  • Quickly find free food. Filter by area of WNC, dates, type of food you're looking for (i.e. prepared meals, produce boxes, etc.),  and what is nearby.
  • Access local mental health support such as counseling, crisis support, substance use disorder treatment, etc.  in one private, easy place.
  • Create a Profile, "star" your favorite organizations, get recommendations, save upcoming distributions and events.
  • Receive push notifications during emergencies

Nonprofits and Community Organizations

  • Reach more neighbors with a public-facing profile showcasing services, hours, photos, events, volunteer opportunities, fundraisers and more.
  • Easily manage your own content with admin control over your profile and posts, no tech skill needed. Assign multiple contributors to your page.
  • Collaborate with other nonprofits using “We Have / We Need,” to share or request resources.
  • Raise money through the permanent "donate" button that links directly to your website's "donate" page
  • Use as a new tool for Emergency Readiness

Volunteers and Donors

  • Discover nonprofits and causes that match your interests and values without going to multiple websites.
  • See timely volunteer needs and open shifts; sign up in just a few taps.
  • Give directly to local efforts by easily navigating to their donate pages.
  • Keep up with upcoming fundraisers, events, campaigns, and more.
  • Create a Profile, "star" your favorite organizations, get recommendations, save upcoming events.

Funders and Community Leaders

  • Investment opportunity for a sustainable, connected support ecosystem
  • View automated, aggregate data on usage, engagement, and needs across the region.
  • Identify gaps in services and invest where support will have the greatest impact.
  • Demonstrate measurable, community-wide outcomes from shared digital infrastructure
  • Invest in a strong social ROI

Bountiful Cities:

"By bringing food access points, community resources, events and opportunities to give or receive support into one easy-to-use platform, wncHelp addresses a real and ongoing barrier to access: knowing where to go and how to get connected."

Cathy Cleary

Director of Community Programs

Bounty & Soul:

"There has been no real-time efficient way to understand the service overlaps and gaps of food security organizations...The app would  provide this real time, ready understanding of food resources in the region."

Paula Sellars

Deputy Director

All Souls Counseling Center:

"A single, reliable hub offering accurate, up to date information on local resources will streamline pathways to care, reduce confusion, and help individuals connect more quickly with the support they need."
